Palmerston Nth Candidate
David wants New Zealand to be a country where it is safe and peaceful to live and prosper. A country that cares for all ages and strengthens families. A country that puts its faith in its own people to take care of the land, air, sea, and waterways. A country where its citizens can use their talents to succeed in their chosen fields. A country that removes unnecessary obstacles for businesses.
He believes that New Conservative's policy approaches all of the above matters with common sense and wisdom.
David has had a long career in the Broadcasting Industry, starting firstly with the New Zealand Broadcasting Corporation in an administration role. He then moved to on-air positions in Timaru, Tokoroa, Palmerston North, Taranaki and Auckland. He was a talk radio host on 1ZB which became NewsTalk ZB. He also set up and managed a radio station in Counties Manukau.
He then became involved in the construction industry as the Marketing and Communications Manager for the Marina division of Wilkins and Davies. Domestic developments included Gulf Harbour, Westpark, Pine Harbour, Westhaven and the Bucklands Beach Yacht Club. International developments included Whitsunday Islands in Australia and the Singapore Yacht Club. After that, David was involved in PR and Sales for the construction of a 286-room Atrium property in Aotea Square for Pan Pacific Hotels.
He then returned to NewsTalk ZB for some time. Then he became the General Manager for Counties Manukau Radio, and then the Brand Manager of the Radio Network where he oversaw on-air staff training. His broadcasting and commentary went beyond radio too—he has been a long-term announcer at the Robertson Holden Speedway in Palmerston North.
He has also owned several food companies. And he currently works for a Medical Science Company in Palmerston North.
Outside of his main occupations, David has also been a drummer, percussionist, and sometime vocalist in various bands over many years. Right now, he is involved in a band that plays jazz/blues and pop/rock music and a South American Batacarda band. He is also writing two books and a film script!
David was so impressed by our policies he became a party member. Then he decided to run as a candidate. This is his first time ever, but he is by no means new to politics. He has been following politics for decades, and throughout his time in broadcasting he has covered a lot of political news, and has interviewed many MPs.
David is proud to be selected as the Palmerston North candidate for New Conservative in 2020.
