New Conservative announced Deborah Burnside as their candidate for Napier recognising it is important that there is a representative that is from Napier, is invested in Napier, and understands what is important to the Napier community.
Deborah Burnside, Napier born and bred, married to Robert Burnside, entrepreneur, Farmer and ex Hastings District Councillor who together have raised three sons now all adults, Matthew, Simon and Andrew in Jervoistown, Meeanee.
Deborah cold started a waste and recycling wheeliebin business in 1990 to complement her husband’s existing commercial front load operation and that business is thriving today.
Together Robert and Deborah also farm just on a 1000 acres in Hawke’s Bay, finishing cattle, and a small amount of cropping – their family farm is about to be a NZ Legacy Farm. Deborah is a hobby bee keeper and a foundation member of Beekeepers HB Inc.
Deborah is a published and award winning author and is a NZ Book Council author. She visits schools all over NZ to talk about waste, recycling, writing and reading.
Active in a range of local community initiatives she is committed to the best outcomes for Napier.
Being exposed to the challenges facing children Deborah quickly realised that making change requires being part of the decision making process in government. This drove her to an involvement with politics which led her to recognise the importance of preserving the family unit and how conservative values are being eroded in New Zealand.
She is passionate about preserving the environment with practical pollution solutions that allows everyone to contribute to better outcomes. As a lung cancer survivor with a strong interest in women’s health due to a lifelong affliction of endometriosis she is driven to improve the quality, availability and effectiveness of New Zealand’s health systems.
With Deborah’s dedication to Napier and her boundless energy she will be an outstanding representative for Napier.
