Weekly Thought - Let Freedom Return
18 April 2020
New Conservative hopes the government will remember the principles they have stood firmly on during their term in government in their decision making processes as it considers whether or not to move from level 4, and if so, to which level.
Dignity is a word we heard a lot during the euthanasia debate. Maybe due consideration will be given to the dignity that those who work and provide for their family normally enjoy, gained from knowing they are providing for those they love. As many are currently being deprived of that opportunity, loss of dignity is high, and with that comes depression and mental health issues.
Choice. Freedom of choice has been taken from us at this time, something this government championed during the recent abortion debate. While New Zealanders have risen to the challenge of making sacrifices during this time for the sake of the most vulnerable, it is time to give us back our freedom of choice.
Kindness has become a household word thanks to the Prime Minister. Advertising is including the word. At every turn we are encouraged to “be kind.” It is time to reward the kindness we have seen, as so many have sacrificed for the few, with the kindness of allowing life as much as possible to return to normal, and families to be reunited, .
Trust. The Prime Minister has told us many times recently that she trusts us. It is time to put actions to that statement and give New Zealanders the opportunity to prove they can indeed be trusted to make decisions for the good of others as well as themselves.
Leadership that honours those being led is leadership that trusts in them, leadership that is indeed kind to them, leadership that releases people to make their own choices and leadership that instills dignity in the individual.
We look forward with anticipation to leadership from this government that upholds the values they have championed during their term in office.
