Remember the Farmers
9 April 2020
As the world continues to fight Covid-19, it is our farmers and primary producers who are providing the food we need, as well as valuable international exports that bring some revenue into the economy.
Katie Milne from Federated Farmers yesterday called for the government to delay any non-urgent Bills that would add financial pressure to farmers, such as the Essential freshwater package and the ETS. New Conservative would add stopping SNA surveys and a provisional tax holiday for all small businesses.
This is a great time for this government to show some kindness to farmers, to acknowledge the benefits they bring to our nation and give them some reprieve from the seemingly never-ending regulations that continue to suck both time and finance from primary producers.
As Katie said, farmers are not looking to dodge their responsibilities, but do need to focus all their time and energy dealing with the headaches both drought and Covid-19 are presenting simultaneously.
